The last Christmas present I made this year...

Today I sat down to get the last Christmas present for this year done, which was an idea I had a while ago already actually. Embroidering a big bathing towel for my 9 year old brother.
I always find it difficult to find something to give to him, especially as he gets older. He helped a little since he asked for Star Wars Lego Figures so I got him the C-3PO he wanted and also a little surprise one, a red Imperial Guard. All the Star Wars nerds will know what I'm talking about ;)

Anyhow, I thought - even though those lego figures are quite expensive - that 2 figures weren't really enough, so after deciding back and forth on doing cross stitch for the towel, which I officially hate since the Harley Davidson logo, I thought I could simply use different fabric letters and embroider them on...

So after making stencils I cut out the letters then went through my stash of thread and picked out the matching colours for each letter and started to sew them on.

I have to admit I was a bit anxious about doing this before actually starting it, since I picked a font that was thinner and more delicate than all those bold texts that probably would've been easier and less curvy and edgy, but I thought this looked way better, especially with the swirly "N", all others just looked plain and boring.

It all turned out rather easy though, I fixed the letters with small strips of double-sided iron on tape to the towel so that I didn't have to use any needles and then went to work. This machine usually struggles with bulky material and also with things that have a lot of fluff, which was why I was surprised that it handled the towel so easily. The small loops didn't get caught in the transporter of the foot once and the needle went through the thick towel like through butter. And the outcome I think looks stunning. Am really proud of this one and hope that he'll like it too. What do you think? Here it is. From the front and further down a closer look to the embroidery and also the backside. :)

Thanks for reading and a happy holiday season to everyone!

Until next time,
xx Lia

And the winner is....

Here we are now to celebrate the winner of the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway that I posted on the 4th. Sorry for taking so long, but I just got back home after a full day at work and lots of annoying customers, on a Saturday and it's now just gone 7 pm...so excuse me while I collapse for a second while I run the random number generator that is going to choose the winner ;)

Unfortunately I had to disqualify several comments because they were from no-reply users or there wasn't an Email address on the profile, nor added after I replied to those specific comments. I'm sorry tho those entries, but it was mentioned to leave an Email address, so... :(

Before I post the result I want to take a chance and thank everyone for the overwhelming response I got to this giveaway. Since it was my first one and this is a brand new blog that had no followers, it was an awesome experience and I hope that I will keep the new readers that I earned through it. Thank you!

As a small reminder, these could be won:

One pair of my apple potholders, in either red, green or yellow, the colour being the winner's choice.

Now I won't keep you waiting any longer though. The winner is....drumroll please...

These are so cute! I've made potholders for other people, but somehow haven't made any for my own kitchen. One of your red ones would be wonderful! Thanks so much for the chance at your giveaway!

Congratulations Dede! I've already sent an email to you to get your shipping details.

For everyone else interested in these, I am currently selling them for 12 Euro in my Dawanda Shop. More red ones will be added soon or can be made by request.

Thanks again for all the posts, the interest and all the nice comments!

Until next time,
xxLia

and the Giveaway is almost over...

2 hours and 10 minutes are left until I will close the comments on the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway post.

And I actually never thought that I would get so many participants and followers! You all made me really happy!

So, for the next 2 hours and couple minutes go on and share this with your friends so they also have a chance on a set of my apple potholders.

Since it will be 2 am in the morning here when it's the official closing time of the giveaway, I'll be announcing the winner tomorrow after work, so in a bit less than 24 hours from now.

Good luck everyone!
xx Lia

Today was a creative day...

After quite a couple weeks of not actually having enough time to do something sewy and creative, I finally managed to get a Kindle Cover done that I promised to make for a friend. Her father loves motorbikes and owns a Kindle, so since Harley Davidson is his favourite type of motorbike, I came up with this idea.

After googling (I love Google!!) I found a cross stitch logo at Debbie's Cross Stitch and decided to use it for this Kindle Cover. I altered the logo a bit here and there though. The cross stitch logo alone took me 7 nights  to finish. I guess I'm a slow stitcher...the rest was whipped up in an afternoon.

I should mention this isn't my first Kindle Cover, I made one for my BFF earlier this year, with a different front though, but also in black. Both were made from an awesome tutorial that I found on Whipstitch - and also via Google ;). Go check it out! It's very easy, all you have to consider are the exact measurements of the Kindle it's meant for, because there are a gazillion different ones out there by now.

More photos of the 2 covers I've made so far can be found on my Flickr stream.

Project for tomorrow? Possibly more keyrings, which are a new idea I've been having.

Have a nice day everyone!

Until next time,
xx Lia
