Secret Tote Bag Swap - Received!!!

Today I received the absolutely most amazing package in the mail from the lovely Mara from Simon Says Sew. And wow, I think this is the biggest package that I have ever received in a swap and I'm just blown away by how gorgeous my new bag is and how much thought Mara put into making it, because she really got my likes and preferences spot on. The colours and patterns are perfect and I can't wait to carry my bag around town! :D Thank you, so, so much, Mara!

Next to the tote which is made after the Super Tote pattern by Noodlehead, she also added a framed clutch purse, a keyfob that matches the bag, with a little turtle charm on it, cute sheep buttons, 2 notebooks, one of them having sewing patterns printed on the outside, how cool?! Then there's also a measure tape, some sticky notes, a sharpie marker and a pencil, as well as lots of nice fabric goodies, some of them being scraps from the bag making. I just adore this package and all the colour choices she made!

Here are a few close-ups of everything she included.

Super cute clutch bacg with hand-stitched detail on the front.

This fabric made me laugh, because I have a linen tote bag that has a sheep print on the front,
also with only one black sheep in the group of all the others being white, this clutch so matches the theme lol!

Yummy texty low volume fabric on the inside! <3

Key fob to match the tote bag, with a super adorable turtle charm dangling from it!

Really, how cute is this turtle?

Mara included lots of nice pockets in the bag, just like I need them!

A hidden zipper pocket, too.

And I love how she changed the pattern the same way I did on the tote I made for my partner,
because Mara also added magnet pockets on both sides of the bag!

There's soooo much room!

Look at all these goodies! I'm stunned!

And fabrics...mmm, you can never have enough fabrics!

I keep going back and touching all my new goodies, gonna admire them for a bit longer today and then clear out my old (bought) bag and pack all my stuff over into this one. Totally love getting happy mail!

So as you can see, the 2nd round of the Secret Tote Bag Swap was extremely successful for me. And Mara hinted at Round 3 in her card that she included.
There definitely will be a round 3, but not until spring time next year. ;)

I have a few projects lined up that I need to finish by Christmas and within the next weeks, but if anyone is interested and looking for a really fast and easy way to swap some fabric, then come on over to Flickr and join in on the Fabric Scrap Swap. Sign-ups for that are open until the 25th October, so just for a few more days.

Happy swapping to everyone and I hope you also had some happy mail to sweeten your day :)

Until next time

And the winner is...

On Monday I posted my Birthday Giveaway here on the blog and it was really nice to read all of your different birthday wishes. I was actually surprised that there weren't too many sewing related ones, but a lot of you wish to travel to specific places or just want to spend a good time with their loved ones. I do hope everyone's wishes come true, though. :)

And I'm able to at least fullfil one little wish today, as I'm going to announce the winner of the $25 gift certificate to Tactile Fabrics now.

As usual I let Mr. Random do all the work and he decided that comment number 34 made by Christine is the winner of this giveaway.

Congratulations on your win, Christine! I will send both you and Jennifer of Tactile Fabrics an email now, so that you will receive your gift certificate shortly to start your shopping spree!

Thanks again to everyone who joined the giveaway, everyone who decided to become a new follower, tweeted, shared and posted away and of course all your lovely get well and birthday wishes. I feel a lot better, although I'm not entirely rid of this cold yet. But sewing is a lot easier again ;)

Enjoy your weekend!

I'm having a major fangirl moment here right now!

Yes, and it's all because the amazing Teresa VanHatten-Granath aka the mastermind behind Green Bag Lady is now an official follower of my blog!

But, as if that's not enough already, Green Bag Lady is now also my newest sponsor!

*insert high-pitched shriek here*

Ok, settling down a bit...for everyone here not knowing who Teresa or Green Bag Lady is, I dare you to check out the following video.

Green Bag Lady is an eco-friendly project that was started in 2008. Teresa and her volunteer "Bagettes" make fabric shopping bags out of fabrics and materials that are donated to them and give them away for free, in exchange for the promise to use the fabric bags instead of paper or plastic bags.

There are currently 2 chapters of Green Bag Lady. One in Nashville, Tennessee and more recently also in the Denver Area of Colorado. There are frequent giveaways held on the Green Bag Lady Blog and bags are also given away at local schools, markets and fairs.

The Green Bag Lady team ships their bags worldwide and receives the help of Teresa's father David VanHatten aka Bagette Dad, who is doing the email correspondence with the winners and organizes the shipping.

To this day more than 25,000 bags have been given away, they are used in 2977 cities in every U.S. state, plus another 1090 cities in 459 territories/provinces/countries around the world. And those are only the dates on their website from September this year.

In fact, I won another bag in a giveaway just last week, the 5th bag in this family, and it's been numbered 25805 according to the email Bagette Dad sent me.

Just let those numbers sink in for a while and then tell me that isn't amazing and just outstanding!

So yes, I feel extremely proud and honoured to not only have Teresa as a follower, but also as a sponsor to my blog and you're all in for a special event coming to this space at the end of next month, which will mark my one year blog anniversary.

I hope you will all come around, we all need more fabric in this world and less paper and plastic or as the Green Bag Lady motto puts it so nicely..."join us, let's change the world...one bag at a time"!

xx Lia

P.S. It goes without saying that this was a really fab birthday present! ;)

Sewing with a runny nose sucks...and a Birthday Giveaway!

It's actually typical that I'm sick, as I'm currently on my last 3 weeks of vacation time this year and off from work. Today actually is my first day of said vacation and since last Thursday a really nice cold has me firmly in its grip. I already thought Friday and Saturday were bad, as since last Friday I have gone through at least 100 paper tissues, but today I can now add a cough onto the list as well and I hate it!!

But enough of that, I doubt you want to read about the load of snotty filled tissues that is filling my bin, among the few bits of thread and fabric that went into the trash after yesterday's sewing adventure. Yeah, I thought sewing would cheer me up a bit, so I worked on my mug rug for the 3rd round of the Mug Rug Revival which is currently running on Flickr, except that sewing with said runny nose is quite difficult. Two lines done on the paper-pieced feather and tissue alert, and so on and so forth, but I got it all done. Took me longer thanks to all the interruptions, but it's done. Yay!

And there went another mini forest in yet another tissue... coughs...what I actually meant to say is, that I hope my partner will like her mug rug.

A few goodies will be added before I mail this off, but I don't want to show them here, because that would probably entirely reveal who I'm making for. Some more pictures and close-ups of this mug rug can be found on my Flickr page.

But now it's Giveaway Time!

If you've stuck with this post - and snotty me - for now, you're in for a treat as well. Wednesday is my birthday and like common in bloggy world, I decided to host a little giveaway for it.

Jennifer Young of Tactile Fabrics has generously sponsored a $25 gift certificate for this giveaway and therefore it's open to all and each and everyone of you out there, international, worldwide, the likes (blame the babbling on the germs, please, lol).

Have a look around her shop on Etsy, she currently has a sale running with up to 35% off on organic and premium cotton fabrics. Want to get your hands on some Michael Miller fabrics? Or maybe Robert Kaufman, Lotta Jansdotter, some of the Stof UNO collections or Road 15 by Sweetwater? Then don't miss entering this giveaway, because that $25 gift certificate can be yours soon!

All of the above can be found in Jennifer's shop. Picture courtesy of Tactile Fabrics.

How do you enter? There's several chances.
1. Leave a comment telling me what your biggest birthday wish is (mandatory).
2. Leave a seperate comment, telling me you're a follower of my blog or become a follower of my blog and tell me how you follow me.
3. Tweet this giveaway and come back to post the link of your tweet.
4. Share this giveaway on Facebook and come back to share the link of your post.
5. Blog about this giveaway and leave a comment with the link to your blog post.

This giveaway will run until thursday, the 17th of October, 2013 at 11:00 pm GMT and the winner will be announced here on the blog on the 18th.  Giveaway is now closed, the winner is Christine with comment number 34. Congrats Christine!

Make sure you're not a no-reply blogger. If you're unsure about that, leave your email address in your comment. Mr. Random will help me pick the winner and if I don't have a way of contacting you, I will redraw immediately. Good luck everyone!

See you next time.

Confessions of a Fabric Addict...

...and the reveal stage of the newest additions to my fabric stash. If the first part of that sentence sounds vaguely familiar, you're probably also a fan of Project Runway, which I've been watching a bit too much lately ;)

I will be linking this post up with Finding Fifth's Sunday Stash, which is hosted by Emily of Sew ET this week.

So...here we go...

Verona by Riley Blake, just love these colours!

Fabric scraps

More fabric scraps

And even more fabric scraps

All of the above are from a German online shop that I discovered while googling for a way to gather more scraps of fabric. The shop is called 'Die Stoffstube' and they sell bundles of fabrics as well as single pieces, starting with about layer cake size up to bigger pieces, as well as bundles of scraps and strips and surprise packs for a not too bad price.

Next up we have the fabrics for the Colour Me Happy FQ Club that I receive monthly from Sew Lux Fabric. The month of September had a bundle of all black fabrics.

Colour Me Happy FQ Bundle for September

Then the lovely Jodie contacted me over Flickr when she saw that I had posted about a possible fabric scraps swap in my group for the Secret Tote Bag Swap. She offered to swap scraps with me in exchange for German newspapers, magazines, menus, food labels and so on for her mother's Lifelong Learners German Language Club. Of course I couldn't say no to that and look at the amazing pretties that I received from Jodie in return! I totally love these!

Super beautiful scraps from Jodie

Here's another view of them from the top

And then last but not least, my boss surprised me with this gingham fabric in home decor weight when she came back from her vacation time and asked if I could make use of it. I don't know what I'll be using it for yet, but of course I said yes ;)

You're probably gonna think I'm crazy now for gathering all of this in just one week, but I did not. It's actually what I accumulated in the last 3 weeks, I just didn't post about it before. So...what do you think, is there still hope for me? ;)

I'm not so sure...

xx Lia
